Continuing Education: Medical Acupuncture for Physicians with Dr. Joe Helms

Enroll now in the premier medical acupuncture training course

Helms Medical Institute is proud to announce the 64th presentation of the Medical Acupuncture for Physicians program, starting December 2018 in Tempe, Arizona.  This 300-hour course is the oldest and most trusted acupuncture training program for medical professionals in the United States.

Beginning in 1978, HMI has created the premier flipped classroom experience for practicing physicians.  This course consists of the three live units delivering an expansive competency in clinical skills.  The on-site sessions are supplemented by textbook reading and an online video curriculum.

You will be exposed to auricular acupuncture, and superficial and deep needling of body points to address the full spectrum of musculoskeletal, functional, and organic problems accessible to acupuncture.  The techniques learned at each live unit can be used immediately after the unit, and real patients are incorporated into the curriculum to further develop interviewing skills, treatment plan development, and needling techniques.

Dr. Joe Helms, HMI’s president and course director, is responsible for introducing acupuncture to physicians in the United States.  Dr. Helms is an American physician who studied acupuncture in France in the 1970s, where almost half of the primary care physicians included acupuncture in their practices.  HMI is known for combining a solid foundation of basic science with a deep appreciation for the rich tradition of Eastern medicine, both from the classics and consequent to its absorption into western medical thought.

HMI clinical preceptors are US-trained physicians, board certified in medical acupuncture, who practice acupuncture in their clinical environment.  Their dedication to medical acupuncture, passion for teaching, and years of experience brings the learning process to life.

The Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course will leave you fully trained to transform your practice of medicine into one that is more satisfying for both you and your patients.
